GameStop: Modern Warfare 3 pre-orders “significantly ahead” of Black Ops

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 isn’t due for release until November, but pre-orders are already open at many retailers. And according to US retailer GameStop, demand for Activision’s third Modern Warfare title places it ahead of where last year’s Black Ops was at a similar time.
“Last year, Call of Duty: Black Ops became the most pre-ordered title in our history,” said Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of marketing at GameStop.

“Already, this year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is significantly ahead of that pace. Our customers’ response to the reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been amazing.”
No figures were revealed, of course. But given how extraordinary demand was for Black Ops, the fact that it’s “significantly ahead” is quite something.
McKenzie has also been bigging up Call of Duty Elite, the new online service set to launch alongside MW3 on November 8th.
“GameStop’s customers are constantly looking for new and exciting ways to enhance their game playing experience,” he said. “The Call of Duty Elite service is a win for gamers with new services like social networking components and access to great DLC, but without changing key game functionality like multiplayer access.”
